How salary tax is calculated
Pakistan taxes salary progressively. First convert your monthly salary to an annual figure, find the slab it falls in, add the fixed amount for that slab, then add the slab rate on the part of your income above the slab’s starting point. Divide the yearly tax by 12 to get the monthly deduction.
For example, a monthly salary of Rs 150,000 is Rs 1,800,000 a year. That sits in the Rs 1,200,001 – 2,200,000 slab, so the tax is Rs 6,000 + 11% of Rs 600,000 = Rs 72,000 a year, or Rs 6,000 a month. For more worked examples at different salary levels, read the salary tax guide for 2026-27.

Frequently asked questions
What is the tax-free salary limit in Pakistan for 2026-27?
For salaried individuals the first Rs 600,000 of annual income is taxed at 0%, which works out to Rs 50,000 a month. Above that, tax starts at 1% and rises slab by slab.
Is tax charged on my whole salary or only on part of it?
Only on the part that falls inside each slab. Moving into a higher slab does not make your earlier income taxable at the higher rate. The calculator applies the fixed amount plus the slab rate on the excess, exactly as the slab table shows.
Does this include allowances and bonuses?
Enter the total taxable salary your employer includes in payroll. Basic pay plus most allowances, bonuses and benefits are normally part of taxable salary, but some items are treated differently, so your payslip is the final word.
Was the 9% surcharge removed?
Published summaries of the Finance Act 2026 say the 9% surcharge that applied to very high salaried incomes in FY 2025-26 has been abolished for salaried individuals. This calculator does not add any surcharge.
Can I use this for business or freelance income?
No. These are the slabs for salaried individuals. Business, freelance and other non-salary income is taxed under a different schedule, so use a calculator built for that.
How often do the slabs change?
Usually once a year when the federal budget is passed in June. This page uses the FY 2026-27 rates and was last checked in October 2026. Always confirm against the FBR website for anything official.
